Pineapple Whip

Pineapple Whip is a light, refreshing dessert that’s quick and easy to whip up. It is also known as the dole whip because it’s reminiscent of Disney’s famous Dole Whip; the Pineapple Whip is one you can make at home and enjoy any time of the year.

The recipe calls for freshly picked pineapple, lemon juice, sugar, creamy fruits, lime juice, salt, and your favorite ice cream. You’ll also need some ice cubes or an ice cream maker.

Our Pineapple Whip recipe takes less than 10 minutes to make from start to finish, including cleanup time. And it only requires three ingredients: pineapple juice (or other fruit juice), heavy cream, and vanilla extract. You can get these on Amazon or any local supermarket — we recommend fresh fruits like pineapples and other creamy fruits.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces pineapple juice
  • 1 big scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • splash of lemon juice
  • pinch of salt

How to make Pineapple Whip

  • Blend the ingredients in a blender (in the order given) until ultra-creamy and smooth, about 3 minutes.
  • If required, press down the pineapple pieces.
  • The time has come to pour into dessert glasses.
  • Nevertheless, I like to transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a 1M “star” tip after freezing it for 30 to 40 minutes (to get that iconic Dole Whip swirl.)
  • Put a swirl in glasses. (Freeze the swirling whip for 20 minutes to help the soft serve keep its form longer.)

Notes and Tips

  • The nicest, creamiest texture will come from eating it right away, but you can freeze it for up to three months in an airtight container. For best results, use an immersion blender or a handheld electric mixer to smooth out the mixture and reduce its ice texture after letting it thaw somewhat on the counter, around 15 to 20 minutes.
  • If you want to make enough of the pineapple whip, make sure to double up your ingredients.
  • Using a piping bag to swirl, use a really large nozzle because the mixture will be thick.
  • A fairly strong blender is required for maximum results because frozen pineapple can be challenging to pulse. I cherish my Vitamix. Both Ninja and Blendtec will do the trick. Let the pineapple defrost a little if you’re using a standard blender.
  • Make a Dole Whip Float out of the Dole Whip. Put some Dole Whip in the middle of a glass, add some pineapple juice on top, and then garnish with a maraschino cherry.
  • To get the recognizable Dole Whip swirl, freeze the mixture for 30 to 40 minutes before transferring it to a piping bag fitted with a 1M “star” tip.
  • Wrap a cloth around the piping bag if you notice any freezer burn on your skin during piping.
  • Not a fan of pineapples? Almost any frozen fruit and its corresponding fruit juice, such as strawberry, lemon, orange, raspberry, or mango, may be used to prepare.
